Attendance Policy

Absences

Eight absences (excused and unexcused) shall be allowed during one semester.  The school personnel shall notify the parents or guardians on the fifth absence in a semester and a schedule a DHA (disciplinary Hearing Authority) meeting.  After the eighth absence in a semester, notice to the parents or guardians regarding possible failure for the semester shall be sent.  After the eighth absence, students will receive a zero for classes missed.

Tardies

A tardy is to be defined as any portion of a school day when the student is not present.  Three tardies (excused and unexcused) equals 1 day absence.

Check-Out

Student checkout shall be issued only at the request of the parent or guardian.

**Note to Policy:  Unusual situations may be approved by the principal and/or reviewed by the DHA.  Students will receive 3 excused days for death in his or her immediate family.

Make-up Tests and Class Work

The instructor will give make-up tests as quickly as the student returns to school.  If a student misses one day of school and a test is given on that day, he/she will be expected to make up the test the following day or at the convenience of the instructor.

The instructor should require make-up work to be completed in the same order that it was scheduled.  The student  is responsible for contacting his or her instructor on make-up work when class time is missed.  Should a student not make up tests and class work, his or her grade will be affected by his or her actions.  A zero will be averaged into his or her grade.  Any class work or tests missed during a suspension or expulsion will not be made up.  Failing grades (zero) will be issued for the work missed.

Mid-term and final tests are very important, and are averaged as 10% of a student's semester grade.  Therefore, we urge all students to be at school for these tests with utmost importance.  No tests will be given early.
