Attendance Policy

Absences

-Eight absences (excused and unexcused) shall be allowed during one semester. After the eighth absence in a semester, notice to the parent(s) or guardian(s) regarding possible failure for the semester shall be sent. After the Eighth absence, students will receive a zero for classes missed.

Make-UP (Time for Time)

-Students who have more than 8 absences must make up the time after school. *Six and one half hours equals one day.

Tardies

-A tardy is to be defined as any portion of a school day when the student is not present. Three tardies (excused and unexcused) equals 1 day absence.

Check-Out

-Student check-out shall be issued only at the request of the parent or guardian.

Attendance and the Student's Driver's License

-Perry County High School is required to report students age 15-17 who: drop out of school without graduating or remain out of school for 10 consecutive days; have more than 15 days of absences in any semester. The driver's license of such students will be revoked or not issued according to the provisions of the law.

Cutting Class/Truancy

-If a student is any place other than that directed by the school during class time, he/she is considered cutting class and will be subject to disciplinary action.

Make-Up Tests and Class work

-Make-up tests will be given by the instructor as quickly as the student returns to school. If a student misses one day of school and a test is given on that day, he/she will be expected to make up the test the following day or at the convenience of the instructor.

The instructor should require make-up work to be completed in the same order that it was scheduled. The student is responsible for contacting his or her instructor on make-up work, his or her grade will be affected by his or her actions. A zero will be averaged into his or her grade. Any class work or tests missed during a suspension or expulsion will not be made up. Failing grades will be issued for the work missed.

Mid-term and final tests are very important, and are averaged a 25% of a student's semester grade. Therefore, we urge all students to be at school for these tests with utmost importance. No tests will be given early.
