General Policies
Applicable to All Sports
Student athletes who
represent Linden Middle School are expected to adhere to policies
established by the Board of Education, school administration, the
athletic staff and the head coach of each sport. Before a student will
be allowed to play, they need to have proof of insurance. Please bring
a copy to the coach.
The following will apply
to all athletes in any sport, as well as cheerleaders.
1. No smoking or
smokeless tobacco use or drinking alcohol.
2. No use of
controlled substances.
3. Hours will be set
by the coach of each sport.
4. Proper language
will be used by coach and player alike.
5. A student whose
behavior has been such that it reflects discredit upon a student or
school is ineligible.
6. Athletes who
conduct themselves in a way that would jeopardize Linden Middle School
and the TSSAA will be suspended immediately. The athletic committee
consisting of the middle school coaches and the principal will determine
if and/or when the athlete may continue participation.
7. Each coach shall
require personal grooming of athletes which will encourage total
community support.
8. Athletes who do not
attend school on the day of a contest will not be allowed to participate
on that night.
9. A bus will be
provided by the school for transportation to and from athletic
contests. Players are expected to use the method of transportation
provided by the school. This also pertains to B-team players and
cheerleaders.
10. Backpacks must be small enough
to fit in lockers: they are not to be carried in the hall or to a
classroom.
11. Playing cards, games of chance,
or any form of gambling is not permitted at school.
Grading Scale &
Report Cards
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 77-84
D: 70-76
F: Below 70
Report cards are
issued every nine weeks. Student progress reports are issued
regularly. Any outstanding fees for workbooks, pictures, fund raisers,
books, etc., must be paid before a student can receive credit.
Field Trips
Any teacher desiring to
take a group of students on an educational field trip must obtain
approval of the school board, superintendent, and principal. Any
behavior problems will not be tolerated.
If bus transportation is
required, the sponsor and principal shall make the necessary
arrangements with the superintendent.
Written parental
permission for each trip must be obtained for every child making an
off-campus trip. These forms shall be kept on file in the principal's
office for the remainder of the year. The forms to be signed by parents
shall include purpose, date, time of departure and return, travel plans,
destination, names of chaperone(s), personal expense involved, and other
necessary details. Students shall not be penalized for participating in
approved school-sponsored trips and activities. Teachers shall permit
students to make up class assignments missed due to such a trip or
activity. The principal and teacher reserve the right to revoke any
students field trip privileges due to behavior problems.
Medicine
Law prohibits the school
from administering any kind of internal medicine. This includes
aspirin. The school should be notified at once if the student is under
medication, or if he/she will have medication in his/her possession.
Students having any serious medical problems or disabilities (diabetes,
etc.) should notify the office immediately upon entering school.
Fundraising Programs
All money collected
within a school, other than money collected by a parent group for any
purpose, shall be deposited in the principal's office, and a receipt for
all deposits shall be issued.
Fundraising drives which
are authorized shall be for the purpose of supplementing funds which are
needed for established school programs and not for supplanting funds
which are the responsibility o the public. Guiding principles related
to this item include:
1. Students involved
shall not be excused from a regular class activity.
2. No quotas shall be
imposed on any students involved, and his/her efforts shall be
voluntary.
3. Funds shall be used
to benefit students currently enrolled who contributed to the raising of
such funds.
Guidance
Students wanting to see
the counselor may do so before, during, or after school. The counselor
will help you by providing you information on grades, or subjects, and
also if you have a personal problem. |
